2014 Community Calendar


Are you a preschool mother?  Do you long for a friend, an uninterrupted meal, and some encouragement?  If so, Brenham MOPS would love to have you! Come experience community, fellowship and support from other moms of preschoolers.  MOPS meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday at Champion Fellowship Church from 9am-11am.  Loving childcare is provided for children ages birth-kindergarten.  Please contact the Champion Fellowship office at 979-277-9090 or Missy Manning at 979-277-8407 for more information.

August 28

Fayette County Fair - Going on Thursday through Sunday at the Fairgrounds in LaGrange! There will be a carnival, exotic petting zoo, talent show, BBQ Cook-off, Horseshoe & Washer Pitching Tournament and more! Great entertainment lined up for every night, so come out for some fun! 


Tailgate Party 2014- Hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.  6pm at Silverwings Ballroom in Brenham.  Tickets will be sold until day of event, but not sold at the door.


August 29

Giddings Swap Meet - 50 Acre Auto Swap Meet will be held the last weekend in August at Firemans Park in Giddings. For information call Matt at 512-581-2802. Set up will be Thursday.


Lee County Youth Center's Mexican Plate Fundraiser - Join us before the first Buffalo football game of the year! Plates are $8.00 a piece and can be dine in or carry out. These delicious places will lovingly be prepared by LCYC friends and include enchiladas, rice, beans, salad, chips & salsa, desert and a drink. Purchase tickets from LCYC board members, at the Chamber office, at the First Presbyterian Church or call 542-4100.


Navasota High School Cheerleaders will be hosting their Annual Lil' Rattler Cheer Camp at 5:30pm at the High School.  Walk -Ins are welcome. The Cost is $35 and includes a pizza dinner, t-shirt and poms.  They will perform at the Aug 30 home game.

St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 77th Annual Labor Day Homecoming Festival & Bazaar -  Chappell Hill. Shiner Catholic Church Fall Picnic - Come out for this great family event going on at Knights of Columbus Park in Shiner! Dinner will begin at 10:30 and drive thru is available. Free music and dancing will be inside the hall with entertainment by Local Accordian Players, Shiner Hobo Band, The Incredible Music Makers and more! there will also be a Country Store, Auction, Arts & Crafts, Bingo and Prizes! St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville is having their 120th Labor Day Weekend Homecoming & Country Bazaar. BBQ starts at 10:30am, children's rides, arts & crafts, booths, games.  Live auction will be at 1pm, on going silent auction, and live music and performers! Located on FM 1774, 2.5 miles North of HWY 105 in Plantersville.

September 3

You can show your support for the friends, residents, and protectors of Wonder Hill Road in Brenham at 6pm in the VIP Room at the Washington County Fairgrounds. They are opposing the approval of  a tax variance and public funding for a Super Car Race Track that will only benefit a private club. The private club consists of members from Houston, Austin and College Station. This track will not be open to the general public nor spectators.

September 5

First Yell 2014! Calling all Aggies! Head over to Reed Arena in College Station and show your 12th Man Pride! The Association of Former Yell Leaders presents "Texas Dance Hall Legends" featuring Johnny Bush, Gary P. Nunn, Joe Ely, Roger Creagor and Max Stalling. Festivities begin at 8:00pm and will run until 11:00. After, everyone is invited to participate in Midnight Yell!


Sept 5th is the last day to register for the Annual Fall Roundup to benefit the American Cancer Society.  It will be at the American Legion Hall in Sealy, starting at 5:30om on Sept 13th.  Live music, BBQ Buffet, awards, and auctions!

September 6

Emergency Preparedness Fair from 10-2pm at 2209 Mayer Waller Rd in Waller.  Survival, first aid, alternate cooking, and many more workshops.

September 7- October 5

Little Diggers Volleyball! 3rd-6th Grade girls will learn basic fundamentals including setting, passing, and serving.  Sundays only from 2-4pm at Brenham High School Gym. $35 pp.  Register at the Bluebell Aquatic Center, 979-337-7254


September 8

NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program - The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Brazos Valley presents an education series of 12 free classes designed and taught by family members offering help to families with a loved one diagnosed with mental illness. These classes are Monday nights 6:30 - 9:00 at the NAMBI BV Education Room in Bryan through November 24. Additionally, NAMI Family Support group meets on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:00 and the NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group meets Tuesdays from 6:30 - 8:00. September 12

9th Annual Texas Word Wrangler Festival - The Giddings Public Library and Cultural Center and the Giddings Area Chamber of Commerce invite you to participate with them on Friday as they "Celebrate Texas Authors"! Over 20 authors will be at the event for readings ,excerpts, and book signings at individual author stations. This year's festival will also include a special program honoring the Home Town Heroes. To kickoff this festival, a Gala will be held Thursday, September 11 at 6:00 pm, followed by a program at 7:00. Sponsorships are still being accepted.


  Pre-Kolache Festival BBQ Party sponsored by Burleson County Czech Heritage Museum in Caldwell. This fundraiser supports their efforts to promote and preserve the rich Czech history of Burleson and surrounding counties. This year’s event will be at the Expo Center in Caldwell on Hwy 36 South.  BBQ chicken and sausage with trimmings, silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. The meal tickets are $10 and everyone is invited to stay for the dance with music by “The Moravians” (from Ennis, Texas) from 6-10 p.m. Tickets are available from any member or at Citizens State Bank in Caldwell.

Junior Mr. & Miss Contest - Washington County Fair presents the Junior Mr. &  Miss contest! This is open to boys and girls in the 6th, 7th or 8th grades in Washington County. Hempstead Festival of Lights - From 4:00 - 9:00 pm you can enjoy the annual celebration taking place at Hempstead Gazebo Park. Join them for entertainment, vendors, parade and even a visit from Santa, himself! They will also have a home and business decorating contest with great prizes up for grabs!

Fundraising with Levy Restaurants - This is an exciting time to be a part of the Aggie Football and Kyle Field experience! Show your Aggie Pride and make money for your non-profit organization! Lessons on the basic understanding of the Czech language will be offered at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange . Classes will include the alphabet and conversational Czech, enjoy children’s literature, and examine the Czech song lyrics prevalent to our area. All classes are geared to those taking classes for the first time so anyone can join! Classes will be held every second Sunday of the month from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. COOL (Christ Over Our Life) - Christ to the Nations Church is offering COOL Recovery Program meetings for alcohol and substance abuse. The meetings are held Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm at Christ to the Nations Church, 1407 Main in Brenham.

Help out with CASA! If you’re looking for a new way to make changes, resolve to help others in need. Consider becoming a CASA volunteer and make a difference in a child’s life and your own! More than 24,000 children in the Texas foster care system need caring adults to look out for them. They need a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate®) volunteer to help get through the foster care system as quickly as possible, and into loving homes where all their needs are met and their dreams can flourish. Training begins in February. Every child in foster care needs someone to help them through this difficult time. CASA for Kids of South Central Texas is a nonprofit that advocates for abused and neglected children in Austin , Colorado , Waller, and Washington Counties . Christian Motorcyclists Association in Brenham - CMA is an international, interdenominational, evangelistic motorcycle ministry whose vision is "changing the world, one heart at a time". This worldwide ministry is dedicated to reaching people for Christ in the highways and byways through the avenue of motorcycling. Texercise Exercise Program - 2:00 - 3:30 every Monday and Wednesday through August 27 at Scott & White Wellness Center! Texercise is a statewide fitness program to educate and involve Texans and their families in physical activities and proper nutrition. Forever Young Senior Center Resale Shop - Help out by donating to this great cause! The shop accepts linens, clothing, household decor, furniture and more. All donations can be dropped off at 702 East  Alamo.  If you have items to be picked up, call the shop at 836-1430. All proceeds from the resale shop help provide lunches for homebound senior citizens throughout  Washington County. For more information, call the Senior Center at 836-6552.
