2014 Community Calendar

 

Are you a preschool mother?  Do you long for a friend, an uninterrupted meal, and some encouragement?  If so, Brenham MOPS would love to have you! Come experience community, fellowship and support from other moms of preschoolers.  MOPS meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday at Champion Fellowship Church from 9am-11am.  Loving childcare is provided for children ages birth-kindergarten.  Please contact the Champion Fellowship office at 979-277-9090 or Missy Manning at 979-277-8407 for more information.

 

The Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, offers two public story times weekly: After school story time is every Tuesday, 4:00pm and Preschool story time is every Wednesday, 10:15am

Washington County Rotary Clubs Annual Demolition Derby at the Washington County Fairground arena.  Starts at 5:30pm.

All American Classic Festival and Car Show in Navasota! A free event for the family with a classic car show at 10am, kids activities, performances, The movie Grease will be shown at the Millers Theater at 12, Live music from Suede from 2-6pm. The Navasota Fire Dept will be selling hot dogs and burgers to raise funds for the station and the Diamonettes will be selling beverages and coke floats

Books and a Blanket is a local nonprofit organization founded by two girls Harper & Maggie. Their goal is promote literacy and well being across the Brazos Valley to in need children. Books and a Blanket will be having a Book Drive- October 18 from 7am-2pm in collaboration with the Household Hazardous Waste & Computer Collection Event at the University Services Complex. November 14

WCHLA, Senior Activity Center is having a drive thru dinner, Friday, November 14 at 4-6PM. Menu will be Pork Loin, Sweet Potato, Cornbread Dressing, Green Beans, Hot Roll & Cookie.  Catered by Schovajsa's.  Tickets can be purchase at the Senior Center (KC Hall), the senior resale shop, Forever Young, a Senior Center member or board member for $9.00.  All proceeds will benefit the senior lunch programs.

Hempstead Festival of Lights - From 4:00 - 9:00 pm you can enjoy the annual celebration taking place at Hempstead Gazebo Park. Join them for entertainment, vendors, parade and even a visit from Santa, himself! They will also have a home and business decorating contest with great prizes up for grabs!

Lessons on the basic understanding of the Czech language will be offered at the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange . Classes will include the alphabet and conversational Czech, enjoy children’s literature, and examine the Czech song lyrics prevalent to our area. All classes are geared to those taking classes for the first time so anyone can join! Classes will be held every second Sunday of the month from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Help out with CASA! If you’re looking for a new way to make changes, resolve to help others in need. Consider becoming a CASA volunteer and make a difference in a child’s life and your own! More than 24,000 children in the Texas foster care system need caring adults to look out for them. They need a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate®) volunteer to help get through the foster care system as quickly as possible, and into loving homes where all their needs are met and their dreams can flourish. Training begins in February. Every child in foster care needs someone to help them through this difficult time. CASA for Kids of South Central Texas is a nonprofit that advocates for abused and neglected children in Austin , Colorado , Waller, and Washington Counties . Christian Motorcyclists Association in Brenham - CMA is an international, interdenominational, evangelistic motorcycle ministry whose vision is "changing the world, one heart at a time". This worldwide ministry is dedicated to reaching people for Christ in the highways and byways through the avenue of motorcycling. Texercise Exercise Program - 2:00 - 3:30 every Monday and Wednesday through August 27 at Scott & White Wellness Center! Texercise is a statewide fitness program to educate and involve Texans and their families in physical activities and proper nutrition. Forever Young Senior Center Resale Shop - Help out by donating to this great cause! The shop accepts linens, clothing, household decor, furniture and more. All donations can be dropped off at 702 East  Alamo.  If you have items to be picked up, call the shop at 836-1430. All proceeds from the resale shop help provide lunches for homebound senior citizens throughout  Washington County. For more information, call the Senior Center at 836-6552.
