2014 Community Calendar


Are you a preschool mother?  Do you long for a friend, an uninterrupted meal, and some encouragement?  If so, Brenham MOPS would love to have you! Come experience community, fellowship and support from other moms of preschoolers.  MOPS meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday at Champion Fellowship Church from 9am-11am.  Loving childcare is provided for children ages birth-kindergarten.  Please contact the Champion Fellowship office at 979-277-9090 or Missy Manning at 979-277-8407 for more information.


The Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, offers two public story times weekly: After school story time is every Tuesday, 4:00pm and Preschool story time is every Wednesday, 10:15am

October 25

Octoberfest hosted by Round Top Schutzen Verein at the historic Round Top Rifle Hall.  German Music, craft beer, and German food!  www.roundtoprifle.com

The historic Rummel Haus, on the Round Top Family Library property, has been lovingly restored thanks to donations from our community and local foundations.  From 10:00 am - 12:00 pm come see the great work that has been done to restore this 1860’s farmhouse and purpose it as an activity center for the community.  Light refreshments will be served.  The Library is located at 206 W. Navasota "Treats on the Street", 5-8pm in downtown Navasota, hosted by the Navasota Police Dept.

October 31

Scare on the Square in Caldwell.  Trick or Treat and Trunk or Treat from 5-7pm downtown.  Haunted house at the Old Market Theater on Buck St from 7pm-midnight.  Admission is $5 per person and goes to Project Graduation, Class of 2015.  Costume Contest at the Main stage on Buck St at 7:30pm.  Backyard Concert with The Spazmatics! at the Old Post Office on Fox St.  Dance will be from 8-11pm and is a $5 admission!

November 1

A Day In Color at Brenham High School.  Registration for the run will start at 8a.m. There will also be field day games going on the entire day. Adults will cost $15 in pre-registration and $20 in regular registration. Students will cost $10 in pre-registration and $15 in regular registration.


November 2

The Hymn & Beer Fest, will be a fundraiser opportunity sponsored by St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg and Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. They will gather to sing some favorite hymns and enjoy a brew. The event will cost $20 which will include a pint glass from Brazos Valley Brewing and two tokens for beer. There will be brats available for a free will offering. The event is going to be at Brazos Valley Brewing Co. located at 201 W 1st Street in Brenham and will be from 4-7PM, tickets will be available at the door.

November 8

Somerville Elementary PTO Fall Festival Fundraiser , 4 – 6 pm at Somerville Yegua Center located on 8th Street by the Somerville High School .  Lots of new and old games, food, and fun!!


November 14

WCHLA, Senior Activity Center is having a drive thru dinner, Friday, November 14 at 4-6PM. Menu will be Pork Loin, Sweet Potato, Cornbread Dressing, Green Beans, Hot Roll & Cookie.  Catered by Schovajsa's.  Tickets can be purchase at the Senior Center (KC Hall), the senior resale shop, Forever Young, a Senior Center member or board member for $9.00.  All proceeds will benefit the senior lunch programs.


November 15

Kickin' Cancer for Kevin, A BBQ Fundraiser, Bake Sale and Auction. It will be held at the Kurten Community Center and starts at 11am. BBQ plates are $10 each. This event is to help Kevin Rodgers cover the cost of medical bills for cancer treatments. For questions and/ or to make a donation call Damon at 979-777-2859

December 13

Hempstead Festival of Lights - From 4:00 - 9:00 pm you can enjoy the annual celebration taking place at Hempstead Gazebo Park. Join them for entertainment, vendors, parade and even a visit from Santa, himself! They will also have a home and business decorating contest with great prizes up for grabs!

COOL (Christ Over Our Life) - Christ to the Nations Church is offering COOL Recovery Program meetings for alcohol and substance abuse. The meetings are held Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm at Christ to the Nations Church, 1407 Main in Brenham.


Help out with CASA! If you’re looking for a new way to make changes, resolve to help others in need. Consider becoming a CASA volunteer and make a difference in a child’s life and your own! More than 24,000 children in the Texas foster care system need caring adults to look out for them. They need a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate®) volunteer to help get through the foster care system as quickly as possible, and into loving homes where all their needs are met and their dreams can flourish. Training begins in February. Every child in foster care needs someone to help them through this difficult time. CASA for Kids of South Central Texas is a nonprofit that advocates for abused and neglected children in Austin , Colorado , Waller, and Washington Counties . Christian Motorcyclists Association in Brenham - CMA is an international, interdenominational, evangelistic motorcycle ministry whose vision is "changing the world, one heart at a time". This worldwide ministry is dedicated to reaching people for Christ in the highways and byways through the avenue of motorcycling. A new chapter is forming in the area and they are looking for members! Forever Young Senior Center Resale Shop - Help out by donating to this great cause! The shop accepts linens, clothing, household decor, furniture and more. All donations can be dropped off at 702 East  Alamo.  If you have items to be picked up, call the shop at 836-1430. All proceeds from the resale shop help provide lunches for homebound senior citizens throughout  Washington County. For more information, call the Senior Center at 836-6552.
